Calculate inverting and non-inverting gain, feedback resistors and output clipping.

This is a teaching op-amp with finite gain and output limited by the supply rails. Bandwidth, slew rate and real output-current limits are not modeled. The simulator uses separate positive and negative supplies; V− may be zero.

How to use

  1. Choose inverting or non-inverting and enter the resistors or target gain.
  2. Set input voltage and both supply rails; a negative output requires a negative supply.
  3. Check clipping, then open the simulator and measure V1 relative to ground.

Circuit model

Av = −Rf/Rin; Av = 1 + Rf/Rin; Vout = Av × Vin.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator model a particular op-amp?

ExercisesExercises: Operational amplifiersNon-inverting gain is 1 + Rf/Rin; inverting gain is −Rf/Rin. Multiply by the input voltage and limit the result to the supply rails. Preserve the negative sign when the output is negative. Select V1 to measure output relative to ground and inspect U1 for saturation.
